Blizzard 35th Anniversary

Trailer

Opening Up The Archives

Hard to believe it’s been 35 years since Blizzard opened its doors as Silicon & Synapse. From the early days of The Lost Vikings and Blackthorne, to the modern era of Diablo 4, WoW, and Overwatch – we’ve been fans. Having the incredible opportunity to help usher in this anniversary with the creative team at Blizzard was a trip down the nostalgia road. Literally. We cracked open the Blizzard archives, and some of our own, to create a hand crafted homage to Blizzard gaming across the eras.

Getting our Hands Dirty

The brainchild and passion piece of Blizzard Creative Director
Jens Sjöbergh, this was always meant to be a piece we would purposely avoid heavy CG for, and instead opt for a hand placed, hand made feel. With the help of Jessica Taylor, Blizzard’s own Senior Physical Archivist, we leveraged their entire collection to tell their story across 35 years. The massive 35 foot table we constructed was broken down as a physical timeline, with artifacts from each game and each generation hand curated to the timeline. We worked with the team on Blizzards campus directly, as some of the artifacts on the table were genuinely priceless – and also because when you do something like this, it’s genuinely inspiring to the team. And this was as much a love letter to the fans as it was to the developers working on the games.

Interviews

Since we had propped memory lane on this table, we used it as an opportunity to talk with the game devs and directors about their Blizzard tenure, and what drives them forward. We captured an amazing amount of material that will find its way across Blizzard’s channels in the months to come as they celebrate this monumental anniversary. We can’t wait to see what’s next.
