With the Reign of Talon arc, Overwatch 2 dropped the numbered entry and ushered in a new era where the Overwatch group became more of a resistance faction fighting against the increasing dominance of Talon. It’s an incredible way of effectively, rebranding Overwatch and recentering it on a stellar narrative beat, while opening up the gameplay to 5 new heroes. To mark this occasion, the team at Blizzard went on a marketing spree, creating trailers and content that pulled the community together and asked them a simple question: Are you going to join Overwatch or Talon. With this first edit out, we built a visual style rooted in resistance propaganda that welcomed players to Overwatch. This edit, and it’s sister Talon edit, became a part of the larger marketing push in-game and across Blizzard’s channels.
