LEGO has always prided itself in the fact that its toys bring an immense amount of joy to kids while also empowering them to use their imagination. Their entire essence is grounded in the idea that LEGO toys are so much more than the box they come in. LEGO and Momentum Worldwide approached us with their plan to install a live AR experience into a playground where kids would be enticed to approach a screen that transports them to a magical universe that allows them to interact with a LEGO character in real time. They enlisted our expertise in working in real-time game engines to bring two LEGO characters from their latest kits to life with life-size forms that little ones can dance and play with until the actual toy drops from the vending machine into their eager hands. Working within LEGO’s animation platform Animaze, we injected a wide range of animations for an owl and a leafy monster that ranged from energetic twists and turns to 360° spins and wing flaps. As the character speaks to the kids, the LEGO reacts with a variety of the in-engine animations we created. There’s no doubt that when it comes to LEGO, one thing’s for sure: the sky’s the limit with boundless possibilities.
