The Setup
The Classic
Monopoly lives in the public zeitgeist as a classic board game just about everyone recognizes the world over. So when Hasbro wants to shake things up and create a new version for a younger generation and their modern sensibilities, they need to expand the Monopoly image and tap a new generation of gamers.
The problem is, this new generation is all about the seamless integration of technology throughout their daily lives. Enter Monopoly App Banking, A new board game that uses our devices not as a distraction to the game, but an added layer that keeps track of the score and prevents everyone from blaming your cousin for padding that final tally at the end.

The Plan
A Modern POV
Our friends at Hasbro brought us in to create a promo campaign for this new game that would showcase the gameplay and provide some visual context to this new hybrid game. As soon as we got our hands on the game, we could see the potential. This isn’t about making Monopoly for the phone, they’ve already done that. This was about bringing kids and families together while using their devices to track and bring some fun minigames to the table.




THE APPROACH

We developed a visual language that exemplified the fun and fast paced elements of this new game. In our testing, we could see that kids loved the art style in the game so we highlighted it by bringing key pieces to life. Graphical flourishes were added to the art style to compliment it and provide a mix-media motif that brought visual depth to the scenes.

Production
Bringing it to Life
A live-action shoot gave us great gameplay footage with our talent and through careful choreography and production planning, it also facilitated the wide variety of multiple languages this game would be adapted for. Without access to these assets up front, it was imperative that we create a pipeline for our shoot and post that would enable this update over time. We know the importance of making sure the product can be shown consistently around the world so this component becomes one of the most important deliverables through it all.

The Monopoly App Banking project provided a fantastic chance to exercise our creative skills while delivering a comprehensive platform toolkit to Hasbro. This robust set of assets not only showcased the game with a fun creative platform but also established a foundation for their continued needs in the future.
